This is a question we love getting, because our answer reflects something fundamental about our educational philosophy. The short answer is: we use technology sparingly, intentionally, and always in service of learning rather than as a substitute for it.
A Predominantly Screen-Free Environment
At Mulberry House International Kindergarten, we are a predominantly screen-free learning environment.
This is a deliberate choice, grounded in extensive early childhood research showing that the richest cognitive, social, creative, and physical development in the early years happens through hands-on, real-world experience — not through screens.
Sensory and Real-World Engagement
Our classrooms are designed to engage all of a child’s senses. Children learn through:
- Building
- Making
- Measuring
- Sorting
- Mixing
- Growing
- Moving
- Climbing
- Talking
💡Key Takeaway: These are experiences that no digital platform can fully replicate.
Our Forest School programme takes this further, using the natural environment as the primary classroom. Our sports programme builds physical intelligence through real movement. Our inquiry projects use real materials, real questions, and real investigation.
Purposeful Technology Integration
When we do use technology, it is purposeful.
We may use a projector to share images that extend an inquiry project — photographs of animals in the wild, maps of the world, or videos of natural phenomena that children cannot observe directly.
We use digital documentation tools to capture and share children’s learning journeys with families.
And we prepare older children in K3 for a world in which digital literacy is important, introducing age-appropriate technology in supervised, time-limited contexts.
Counterbalancing Home Screen Time
We are also very conscious that many children already have significant screen exposure at home. School, we believe, should be a counterbalance — a place where children build the real-world competencies and deep attention capacities that screen-heavy environments tend to erode.
Technology as a Tool
Technology is a tool. Like all tools, what matters is when, why, and how you use it. At Mulberry House, we use it wisely — and we invest our greatest energy in the irreplaceable richness of human connection, physical exploration, and genuine curiosity.
